Women's health is very important, especially in light of so many not taking care of themselves the way that they should. There are some different things that women need to do in order to keep their health intact. One of these preventative measures of particular importance is to have routine mammograms done if you are 40 years or older. However, there are some women that are having them even earlier than 40, which is not a problem.

It is important that women are vigilant about their health because of the number of diseases and other medical conditions that can affect them. Here are some of the most crucial medical conditions and what you can do about them:

  • Heart disease – Heart disease can affect any woman, no matter what their color or age is. It affects thousands of women in the U.S., causing close to 350,000 fatalities per year. In fact, in the United States alone, there are more women that succumb to heart disease than men. Even with that, heart disease can be prevented. In order to reduce risks, you must:
    • Eat a healthy diet to include fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains
    • Exercise on a regular basis, at least four to five times a week
    • Don’t smoke and avoid secondhand smoke
    • Take control of other health issues, such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure

If the risk of heart disease is great, your doctor may want you to take a low dose of aspirin on a daily basis.

  • Cancer – Cancer can be a grave threat to women’s health. Nowadays, more women are succumbing to lung cancer more than any other cancer. Approximately more than 70,000 women succumb to it every year. Most of the deaths are relating to smoking cigarettes. The second leading cause of cancer is breast cancer. It causes about 40,000 or more deaths each year. Believe it or not, colorectal cancer comes in third for women, which in the past was thought to be something only a man would get, but that has proven not to be the case.

There are things a woman can do to reduce the risk of getting any type of cancer:

    • Incorporate exercise on a regular basis four to five times every week
    • Incorporate a health diet
    • Have regular check-ups
    • Incorporate a healthy diet
    • Don’t smoke or inhale secondhand smoke

Women’s health is obviously important and should be taken seriously by staying fit and healthy and making time to go to the doctor and get regular check-ups. Taking care of this aspect of their life can help them to live a long, healthy and productive life.
